Amidst all this sadness and terror and death and despair, we wanted to write something about the happy things on this Earth, and remind you all that the world is still an extraordinarily beautiful place and that being happy is crucial. We hope this story will bring a smile to you , as it did to us.
On the way to breakfast at Dunkin’ Donuts, seven-year-old Austin Feldman and his parents passed a firehouse. His parents took the opportunity to teach their son about 9/11 and how the firefighters saved thousands of lives, many sacrificing their own.
When they reached Dunkin’ Donuts, Austin saw Deputy Donnie Johnson ordering at the counter. He went up to him, and said, “I’m gonna pay for your breakfast.” You see, the tooth fairy had just come knocking, and he had money to spare.
The officer “was totally off guard, was taken by surprise.” He told Austin it was okay, he didn’t have to pay for him, but Austin insisted.
For Johnson, the $6 was way more than $6. "With all the negative press because of a few bad officers, this family showed we are bigger than that, and they’re able to see above that. There’s more good than bad, and we gotta focus on the positive."
